As the weather cools, our classrooms are turning their attentions toward the changes that we see in the natural world.   Kindergarten On the first day of Fall in the Kindergarten classroom, they discussed what typically happens during autumn’s season and made fall tree art. Every student that wasn’t already in possession of it was given a copy of the “Four Seasons for Little People” book that was donated by an unidentified local business. The Kindergartners also learned about the parts of an apple and the...

International Day of Peace

Today, we commemorated the UN International Day of Peace by inviting each child to express what Peace means to them. The answers we received were truly heartwarming, so we compiled a list of the most memorable ones for everyone’s enjoyment. “Peace is…” “A rainbow” “Mommy Earth” “Not kicking and screaming” “Snuggling with my Mom and Dad” “Mommy and Daddy and trucks” “My dogs and my parents” “I feel peaceful when…” “I am...

Though it has been a most beautiful summer, we are all eager for the cool weather and colorful changes that nature has in store for us. All of our students have been working hard and are thrilled to be learning in their classroom.  Each class has focused some of their attentions on our upcoming International Peace Day celebration, which will be held on Monday, September 21st.  If your child is willing, ask them to share the peace song with you. You will find lyrics in the Friday Folders.   Toddlers The two-year-old class has been...

All the children have begun the school year with great enthusiasm. Our primary focus has been on lessons of grace and courtesy as the children learn to prepare their work spaces, move through the classroom peacefully, and resolve conflicts with respect and empathy. Each classroom began the year with reminders about the rules and ways of the Montessori classroom: carrying, rolling, and unrolling a rug, walking around rugs, pushing in chairs, using inside voices and other good habits we want to have in the classroom. These lessons are a common...

We would like to officially welcome everyone back to school. We’ve had a wonderful week as we settle into our routines here at Children’s House. This week, we focused on using grace and courtesy, and on how to create a peaceful classroom. The non-nappers started their Chinese and Spanish classes.  We reviewed procedures with the children and they loved choosing their weekly helper jobs. All of the work your child does in a week can be found in their Friday Folder. These folders are placed in crates on the Teacher’s Table...

Monarch Butterfly Presentation at CH

Dear Parents, This afternoon, we had the pleasure of having Noppadol Paothong (Evalyn’s dad) give a presentation on the Life Cycle of Monarch Butterflies in relation to what the kindergartners are learning in their science unit. We learned about the egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and the adult butterfly stages. We were even able to see examples of the various stages! Please ask your children at dinner tonight about what they learned and how the milkweed plant is essential to the growth of caterpillars. Thank you, Noppadol, for the...

This week, we have been cleaning, planning, and setting up work work materials for each of the classrooms. We are finding inspiration in the materials and looking forward to the start of what is sure to be a great school year. We are happy to announce some exciting changes to our Montessori teaching positions: In the Red Building, our teacher, Rebecca, will be assisted by our newest teacher, Andrea, in the Red Up classroom. Andrea recently relocated with her husband from Michigan, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology...

New School Year: 2015-2016

Dear Children’s House Family, It’s hard for me to believe that it is already time to make plans for the next academic school year. During these two weeks, our CH teachers and staff will be devoted to classroom and curriculum preparation. We will also be addressing some maintenance and repair issues in the campus buildings. The Red Down bathroom is being renovated into a new cubby room. Travis Kroner has generously donated his time and talents to help us execute this project, and my husband, Hojong will put a wooden floor down for...

The picnic was such a success and so much fun! Thank you to all who came out to enjoy good company and make our playground beautiful. As we near the end of the school year it is so rewarding to see all the progress your children have made socially, emotionally, and academically.   Kindergarten Spring has sprung in Kindergarten with the month of May. They had times of celebration as all of Children’s House gathered to celebrate Spring on May Day, and they made and delivered May Day baskets. Appreciation for Moms inspired work as they were...
